3 Ways to Boost Recruitment Through University Collaboration

Struggling to recruit? The ATC actively works with UK-based universities’ translation and interpreting studies and applied languages departments to promote and facilitate internship and recruitment opportunities, and to connect member companies with university departments, careers services, and students in the UK.

These are the three key ways in which you can boost recruitment and add value to your business through university collaboration!

1. Build relationships with your local universities

Building long-term relationships with your local universities is a smart move. By connecting with the universities in your region, you get to know the department staff, and help bring up the next generation of language industry professionals.

Visit the university, volunteer to speak about the industry, share your experiences, and give back to the community!

2. Recruit directly from the university

Recruiting talent directly from the university gives you access to an untapped pool of future talent. You can get tailored support from the university’s Careers Services, and discuss your needs directly with the department leads – and pick the best of the bunch from students eager to start their career.

Overseas students who have graduated from a UK university can stay on in the UK for an additional two years on their Graduate Visa, allowing you to hire international talent without going through a sponsorship visa process.

3. Offer short or long-term internships

Many universities incorporate a short or long-term internship or placement module in their translation or applied languages degree. Make the most out of the opportunity, bring a student in to work on a project, and give them a taste of life at a language service company.
