AI Guiderails for Cross-Government Languages Group
In early February, the ATC joined the UK’s Cross-Government Languages Group’s Technology Roundtable, hosted by GCHQ, the third UK intelligence agency alongside MI5 and MI6. GCHQ convened stakeholders from the language services industry to discuss the development of guiderails for the potential, implementation and use of AI in delivering future language services.

Ministry of Justice Contracts Awarded
The Ministry of Justice has awarded its new language services contract, which will commence in October 2026 with services provided by incumbents thebigword, Clarion UK and The Language Shop, and new secondary spoken services supplier, ATC member company Translate UK. The new contract incorporates a number of improvements, including the implementation of the MoJ’s new Qualifications Framework, and measures to develop interpreter welfare and remuneration.
Cross-Cultural Language Support in Maternity & Women’s Health
New standards for Cross-Cultural Communication and Language Support: Standards for Maternity Care and Women’s Health published by the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists set out practical, actionable steps for NHS commissioners, providers, agencies, and interpreters. The standards call for free access to professional interpreters, robust documentation of language needs, gender-appropriate and culturally safe communication and clear processes for feedback and informed refusal.
ATC Partners With ACIS for Level 3 Interpreter Access
The ATC has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Association of Community Interpreters (ACIS), marking a new strategic partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration across the public service interpreting supply chain.
