Ministry of Justice Response to the House of Lords

The UK’s Ministry of Justice has responded to the House of Lords’ Public Services Committee’s report on interpreting services in the courts. In its response, the MoJ confirms its commitment to the new MoJ Qualifications Framework, defines outsourcing as the most viable means of procurement, and pledges to increase the level of transparency and frequency in reporting and visibility for complaints processes, but rejects the notion of minimum fees set at the framework level.

New study shows how NHS Trusts use language services

A new study conducted at the University of Surrey’s Centre for Translation Studies shows how NHS Trusts in England use translation and interpreting services and how they manage the use of MT in multilingual communication. The study reveals little evidence of strategic deployment of MT in the NHS, and highlights the risks of ungoverned use.
