The ATC’s Member of the Month in December 2023 is Global Lingo, a UK-headquartered, rapidly growing language services specialist with a 24/7 tech-enabled presence across the globe.

We caught up with Global Lingo’s CEO Karl Eastwood and People Operations Manager Frosso Skoteinioti to talk about fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace, leveraging the tech advantage, and making a difference through language.

Fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace

Global Lingo believes in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where equal opportunities are a fundamental principle. An Equal Opportunities Employer, Global Lingo’s support structures include mentorship programs, external employee support programs, regular diversity and inclusion training sessions, and open communication channels.

“Recognising and valuing individual contributions is important to us,” says Global Lingo’s People Operations Manager Frosso Skoteinioti. “Initiatives like our company values award and our annual awards ceremony aim to foster a culture of appreciation, and they also provide equal opportunities for recognition across our talented staff in the UK, US, Singapore, Romania, Guatemala and Egypt.”

For Global Lingo, building a sustainable employment pipeline is key. It invests in the development of young talent through its graduate scheme, and supports employees who wish to explore new career paths, or move to another role through internal mobility transitions.

Leveraging the tech advantage

Global Lingo believes in being ready to pivot according to new industry trends that add value, and over the past year, it has focused on implementing a number of innovations to leverage the tech advantage.

Global Lingo has been busy embracing industry trends and technological innovations, particularly in integrating AI with human expertise. Over the past year, the company has made significant strides in enhancing its service offerings through this synergy.

CEO Karl Eastwood elaborates on this progress: “Our journey with technology has been transformative. We’ve developed workflows that combine automated speech recognition and machine translation with the critical element of human review and editing. This blend not only accelerates our ability to deliver content faster but also more cost-effectively, without compromising on quality.”

“Our team’s expertise lies in consulting with clients to determine the most impactful way to handle content. Whether it’s through our automatic speech recognition or machine translation offering, the focus is always on maximizing content utility while being mindful of ROI,” Karl adds.

But the services don’t sell themselves

Over the past 5 years, Global Lingo has outpaced industry growth figures through shrewd business development and a dedication to building new business sales.

“Since 2020, through a mixture of new clients and existing business growth, revenues have increased by 72%, and to support this growth, our team has doubled in size”, says Karl. “This achievement speaks to the strength of our whole team’s efforts in showcasing the value and benefits of our services while driving further growth”.

While the services don’t sell themselves, Global Lingo is also committed to giving back to the community and supporting meaningful causes. In 2023, the company partnered with Shatterproof , a national non-profit organisation dedicated to reversing the course of the addiction crisis in America. Shatterproof is focused on ensuring treatment in America is based upon proven research on and ending the stigma of addiction.

“Beyond financial contributions, we believe in using our expertise to make a difference. That’s why Global Lingo has committed to providing $10,000 worth of language solutions support to Shatterproof over the next 12 months. By offering our language services, we aim to contribute to their mission and promote inclusivity through effective communication,” adds Frosso.
