What’s the shape of the language services industry in the UK, in Europe and globally? Where is it heading?
Fresh research from Nimdzi Insights, Slator and ELIS analyse the state of the language services market.
The 2023 Nimdzi 100
ATC Partner Nimdzi’s top 100 ranks the largest language service providers across the globe, and tracks the trends and growth of the industry.
Despite global uncertainties, Nimdzi estimates that the language services industry reached USD 64.7 billion in 2022 and should grow to USD 69.3 billion in 2023, with 11 out of the largest 100 language service companies headquartered in the UK.

The Slator 2023 Language Service Provider Index
The Slator Language Service Provider Index is a ranking and an index of the world’s largest translation, localization, interpreting and language technology providers.
Coupling revenue information with year-on-year growth and other company details, Slator has segmented the landscape into four groups:
- Super Agencies – full-service, standalone LSPs with revenues greater than USD 200m;
- Leaders – LSPs with revenues greater than USD 25m and that do not fall into the Super Agency category;
- Challengers – LSPs with revenues between USD 8m and USD 25m;
- Boutiques – LSPs with revenues between USD 1m and USD 8m.
European Language Industry Survey, Results out 22 March 2023
ELIS, the European Language Industry Survey, tracks industry trends, expectations and concerns of a wide range of language industry stakeholders, including SME language service companies, independent language professionals, training institutes with translation and interpreting-related training programmes, language departments in private companies, public administrations, and language service buyers.
ELIS results will be presented on 21 March 2023 at 3 pm GMT, online.
ATC UK Language Industry Survey & Report 2023
The ATC UK Language Industry Survey will be launched in May-June 2023, in collaboration with Nimdzi Insights. The biannual report is the only industry market research focusing on the UK market, taking the pulse of the UK’s language services from the top players to the wide variety of SME companies.
The UK Language Industry Report 2023 will be published at the ATC’s conference on 21 September 2023, and at our AGM 28 September 2023.
