Local language professionals celebrate election

The language sector’s leading professional body formally elected Raisa McNab, Quality & Training Manager at Sandberg Translation Partners in Whiteley and Dan Peachey, Commercial Director at Intonation Ltd in Fareham to its Council at its June meeting.

With almost 40 years of professional experience between them, Raisa and Dan will help the Council to drive forward the development of the ATC and contribute to the future prosperity of the UK’s £1 billion language industry.
Raisa, who holds a Master’s Degree in English and French Translation from her native Finland, has been working with the ATC Council since 2015 on the development of an ISO certification service for the language services industry.

In her role as a Council member she will launch the service to the sector at the 2017 Language Industry Summit in September.
Raisa explains: “I am delighted to have been elected a Council member and am looking forward to working alongside others to contribute to the future development of the ATC.
“I have been working as a co-opted member of the Council for two years now, using my industry experience in quality management and certification to develop an exciting ISO certification service and I very much look forward to launching it to the industry later this year.”

Dan, who has also served on the ATC ISO Standards commenting group and as Vice Chairperson of Eulogia, an alliance of translation companies with one member per EU language holds a degree in French and German. He completed a Postgraduate Diploma in French Translation at Southampton University before beginning work as a Project Manager at Intonation Ltd, where he became Commercial Director and assumed responsibility for the day-to-day running of the company in 2011.

Dan has overseen the acquisition of two other language companies, UPS Translations and WORDtrans, leading to Intonation being names as the ‘Fastest Growing Language Service Provider’ in the UK in 2016.
Commenting on his election Dan said: “I have worked in the language industry for more than 17 years now and have come to the period in my career where I want to give something back to the sector.

“Being elected to the ATC Council not only supports my professional development but enables me to work alongside my peers to help shape the future of the UK language industry, something I feel very proud to be involved with.”
