The ATC has launched its 2026 UK Language Industry Survey, and is inviting UK-based language service companies to take part. The survey takes around five minutes to complete and will inform a comprehensive report on the state of the sector, due for publication in October 2026.

The survey aims to capture the value of language services across three dimensions: the performance of the sector itself, the impact of language services on the wider economy, and the sector’s contribution to the delivery of public services. Together, these form the basis for the ATC’s advocacy and lobbying work, which depends on current, credible data to make its case effectively.

Responses from individual businesses are central to this. The ATC will combine survey data with insights on client-sector performance and other sources, producing findings that reflect the market more fully than any single survey could on its own. The resulting report will chart the shape and size of the UK language services market and demonstrate its impact on the economy, on exporting, and on the wider society.

Participating companies stand to benefit in several ways. The findings offer insight into the UK market’s size and performance, which businesses can use to shape their own objectives and planning. Participation also strengthens the collective case that language service companies make to clients on the value of their work. And, importantly, it provides the hard evidence that underpins the ATC’s engagement with policymakers.

The survey is designed specifically for UK-based language service companies and asks each respondent to report on the segment of the market they represent. Because the accuracy and credibility of the final picture depend on the breadth of participation, the ATC is encouraging all UK-based language service companies to contribute. The more responses received, the sharper and more representative the findings become.

The 2026 report will build on the ATC’s ongoing work to document and advocate for the UK language services industry, providing members and the wider sector with a reliable benchmark of market conditions and a robust evidence base for representing the industry’s interests.

The survey is open until mid-September, and the final report will be published in October 2026.
