20228 Legal Interpreting Under Review

A revised draft standard for legal interpreting is now open for public comment. For language service providers, interpreters, and legal institutions, this is a development worth paying close attention to. ISO/DIS 20228:2026, Interpreting Services — Legal Interpreting — Requirements, is the second edition of ISO 20228:2019. The draft is currently in its DIS (Draft International Standard) ballot stage, with the public commenting window running from 10 June to 3 August 2026.

20109 Simultaneous Interpreting Equipment Under Review

ISO 20109 is the international standard for simultaneous interpreting equipment. Its 2025 edition sets out requirements for the systems used to deliver audio and video to interpreters and audiences whether everyone is in the same room, participating remotely, or working in a hybrid setup. Amendment 1 to this standard is now open for public comment via your National Body, with a comment window running from 6 July to 29 August 2026.

18884 Interpreting Services Under Review

ISO 18841 specifies basic requirements for the provision of interpreting services. It is currently undergoing review at the Draft International Standard DIS stage to replace the previous 2018 edition.

21998 Healthcare Interpreting Under Development

ISO 21998 currently under development in its early working drafts specifies requirements and recommendations for healthcare interpreting services in spoken and signed communication, intended for interpreting service providers and healthcare interpreters.

23155 Conference Interpreting

ISO 23155 from 2022 specifies requirements and recommendations for the provision of conference interpreting services. It is primarily addressed to conference interpreters and conference interpreting service providers.

13611 Community Interpreting

ISO 13611 from 2024 specifies requirements and recommendations for the provision of community interpreting services. It establishes the foundational principles and practices necessary to ensure quality community interpreting services for all language communities (spoken and/or signed), for end users, as well as for clients, and for community interpreters.

6253 Training Programmes in Community Interpreting Under Development

ISO 6253 for requirements and recommendations for training programmes in community interpreting is currently under development in the committee draft stage to replace the earlier technical specification.
