Supporting those who need our help
“The ATC and its member companies support charities working with those who are disadvantaged and need our help. Translators without Borders has been our chosen charity over many end-of-year donations, fundraisers and raffles, and we are proud to be able to be a Bronze Sponsor for 2021,” says ATC Chair Ruth Partington.
Every year, Translators without Borders provides over 20 million words in around 200 language pairs, helping people affected by crises or poverty access information about services, education, or their rights. In the last year, TWB and its volunteers have translated more than 6 million words of COVID-19 information and built a COVID-19 glossary, available in 40+ languages, supporting the global response to the crisis. They have also launched a multilingual COVID-19 chatbot, Uji, which makes safe two-way communication possible in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In recent years, TWB has expanded its on-the-ground support for the Rohingya refugee crisis, and for people displaced by violence in Northeast Nigeria. They have also established a program in the DRC, tackling the Ebola crisis and its aftermath.
This work would not be possible without the volunteer linguists who donate their time and expertise, and the financial support that language service companies, associations and individuals extend to Translators without Borders.
