A new service being run by the Association of Translation Companies (ATC) will provide language service providers with expert auditing and certification for ISO certificates covering the translation industry.

The ATC’s ISO Certification Service, launched at the association’s recent Annual Language Industry Summit in London, will offer the services of qualified auditors who are able to ensure the unique operations of the translation industry are understood and respected.

It will provide auditing and certification services to:
• Quality management standard ISO 9001:2015
• Translation services standard ISO 17100:2015
• Machine translation post-editing standard ISO 18587:2017.

The ATC, the language sector’s leading professional body, will support companies on the road to certification with training events, webinars and workshops on implementing industry ISO standards.

The certification service also includes an ISO development group which will share information on ISO standards relating to translation, interpreting and related technology. It aims to enhance the position of the UK’s language services industry as a pioneer in both the development and application of these emerging international industry standards.

Existing members of the ATC, which is the leading voice for companies operating in the UK’s £1 billion language services industry, will receive a 20% discount on certification fees as well as access to the ATC’s ISO library and assessment tools.

Successful completion of the ATC’s ISO certification will see language service providers receive an expert auditor’s report and a certificate which can be used to demonstrate they have met the ISO standards. It will provide their customers with the reassurance that their work will meet their expectations.

Raisa McNab, the ATC’s Lead on Standards as well as Learning and Development Manager at Sandberg Translation Partners Ltd, said: “The language services industry is a long-established serious, professional sector with its own processes, tools, requirements and now international standards.

“These industry standards will enhance the position of the UK’s growing language services industry throughout the world. As the world’s longest established professional association representing language service providers, the ATC is uniquely placed to offer an expert ISO Certification Service to help companies showcase their work.”
